Database of Adaptive Structures

{ What }

Usually our buildings and structures are passive. They are built to satisfy more or less only one function. Currently multi-purpose space is demanded more and more often for optimal use, and functionally-adaptive structures are one possible answer to this requirement. It allows a single space to be used for different purposes, for example an open stadium roof allows open-air sport events while it can be used in rainy weather conditions and/or for cultural events like concerts when it is closed. [3] With this background we gather the data of this type of structures from all over the world and opened the web database.

Retractable Roofs and Kinetic Façade can fall under the category. The database contains year, scale, name of the designer, location and function of the structures. You can sort the data by the type, the location, the year and the scale.

This database has been developed as a joint research project of Noiz EaR. The concept of the classification is based on the study in [1], and the data of retractable roofs are derived from [2].
